The auction winner and three (3) guests will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the NBC broadcasting booth with NBC's Emmy award-winning content creator, Gil Capps, and 2020 PGA of America Lifetime Achievement Award winner in Journalism, Bill Fields, on site at the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst Country Club. The auction also includes dinner with Capps and Fields at Pine Needles Resort. Additional Details: * Winner will receive entry and a behind-the-scenes tour of the NBC broadcasting booth during Wednesday's practice round of the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst. * Dinner is tentatively planned at Pine Needles Resort but is subject to change. About Gil Gapps Gil Capps is an Emmy award-winning content creator. He has spent his entire working career in golf media, having founded a regional golf magazine right out of Davidson College and written extensively about the game before jumping into television. Capps has worked on-site at more than 500 tournaments around the world – most spent sitting in NBC’s main tower providing editorial content and direction to its broadcasts and announcers such as Johnny Miller, Dan Hicks, and Dick Enberg. He also built and led Golf Channel’s ground-breaking Editorial Research Unit. A native of North Carolina, Capps resides with his family in Florida. About Bill Fields Bill Fields' work has been honored many times in the writing contest of the Golf Writers Association of America, including first-place awards in 1986, 1991, 2003 and 2007. Fields had a story in The Best American Sports Writing 1996, and the anthology cited for a notable story in 1998, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2012. He won a 2011 LPGA Global Media Award for a feature about the rise of South Koreans in women’s golf and has received multiple awards in the writing contest of the International Network of Golf in recent years. He is the 2020 recipient of the PGA Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism, whose previous honorees include Dan Jenkins and Herbert Warren Wind.
A note from Carolinas Golf Foundation: Proceeds from this auction will go to the Carolinas Golf Foundation which supports golf-based initiatives in the Carolinas. These programs include Youth On Course, TurfGrass Research, Junior Golf, Women's Golf, First Tee Chapters and startup high school golf teams.
